Painting Faces, Hair, and Fur by Chris Stubbs

Bring your standard supplies — palette, watercolors, brushes and 1/8-1/4 size sheets of paper (at least 2 or 3).  If you don’t have one, Chris uses a Monarch Bright by Winsor Newton for lifting.  It is an acrylic brush, and she uses the Bright, not flat ( a bright has shorter bristles).  A size 6 or 8 is nice.  Merri Artist carries it.  This is softer than a regular (Cheap Joes) lifting brush and does not damage the paper.   Also, for fur, bring a small round #6 or smaller.  Chris will send photos of the animal and person (and their hair) she will be painting as we get closer to the break out session.  Feel free to use your own pictures or copy hers.

FYI, for her skin tones Chris generally uses Winsor Newton Raw Sienna, Quinacridone Rose (generally W/N) and Cobalt Blue.  (She will talk about the blues she has been experimenting with in the break out session.)  You don’t have to purchase these — this is just what Chris uses.  We won’t be focused on skin tones.  For brown hair tones, Chris uses Quin Burnt Orange and Indanthrene Blue to darken, and usually add some violets or oranges depending on the color.  For blond hair Chris uses raw sienna (W/N) with some highlights of manganese blue and cobalt violet.
