Let’s Paint on Fiber Paste with Pam Haunschild

A 1/6 sheet Arches 300 lb. paper pre-textured with fiber paste, a small piece of fiber paste “paper” and a small container of fiber paste will be provided by Pam. A $10.00 voluntary donation is requested to cover the cost of these items.

Supply List:

  • Paint (acrylic or watercolor)
  • Brushes
  • A water container
  • A rag or paper towels.
  • Dry media (e.g., colored pencils, pastels) also work well on fiber paste.
  • A surface to try out your paste on; the back (or front) of an old painting will work.
  • Consider bringing a sketch or an image to work from.

Painting with Gouache and Ink Resist with Rebecca Sentgeorge (substituting for Ann Moore)

  • Watercolor brushes, round or flat, in several sizes up to a 1” flat.
  • Gouache (opaque watercolor) in the tube: Bring at least the three primary colors plus white, so that you can mix other colors from them. If you do not currently have any gouache, and are not sure you want to invest in a professional grade set, a small set of student-grade gouache in primary colors will be fine. Just be sure it is traditional (water soluble) gouache. Acrylic gouache will not work for this technique. For best results, leave the paint in the tube until you use it; dried gouache that has to be reactivated with water will never completely regain the opaque quality and rich color of wet paint fresh from the tube.
  • Paper: 2-3 small sheets of watercolor paper or illustration board, approximately 6×8 to 8×10” size. You might like to prepare a couple of sheets in advance with simple outline drawings, planning to leave plenty of white space in your composition. (sample illustrations will be sent to all participants).
  • A palette for mixing colors. A ceramic surface, such as an old plate, or another smooth surface such as an aluminum pie plate, is ideal. I don’t recommend squeezing gouache into palette wells ahead of time, which allows it to dry out.
  • India ink and applicators. These will be provided at the session.
  • A water container. You will need water, but you will use it sparingly; the more water you add to gouache, the more transparent it becomes and the longer it takes to move from one stage of your painting to the next.
