Serendipity in Salem Goes Virtual

Well, here we go again, wonderful WSO’s members. We have made the decision to move to yet another virtual convention. We are excited to share with you some very fun and creative ways that we are putting together an amazing virtual time that you won’t want to miss. We are so looking forward to seeing all of you on the screen and wanted to give you a heads up that details will be coming in a day or two.

Our talented Juror Iain Stewart is looking forward to working virtually with us and in fact has an amazing studio set up to enable him to give us the best demo, the best critique sessions, and the best workshop that we’ve been able to offer so far. We are so thrilled to be able to be working with him and share this amazing artist with you.

We are still moving forward with the live art show at the gallery so painting check-in will be the same as our last two conventions. And, we have some fun surprises in store for you at our virtual business meeting.

Those of you who have already registered for the convention will be getting a personal call to let you know your options and if you would like a refund or apply it to other events.

Anji Grainger,
WSO President

2021 Fall Convention

Zsuzsanna Vamos, Conventions Director
Beth Schilling, Marcia Morrow & Loisann Young, 2021 Fall Convention Co-chairs

The 2021 Fall Convention is just around the corner. We are striving to make your convention as exciting and informative as possible for everyone to enjoy our passion for painting. The Convention Center in Salem is our destination for the 2021 Fall Convention, and whatever your interests are, you’ll be able to see and do a lot!

The famous Grand Hotel is right next to the Convention Center and it houses the wonderful Bentley’s Restaurant. There are also a number of other welcoming and affordable hotels in the vicinity of the Convention Center.

Our Exhibition of 80 selected paintings will be displayed at the Elsinore Framing and Fine Art Gallery (444 Ferry St SE, Salem, OR.) The gallery is an easy walk, just one block away from the Convention Center. The gallery features 4,000 sq ft of display and framing space to showcase our winning paintings.

Our eight Breakout Sessions will be presented by twelve of our renowned members sharing their knowledge and expertise to all who participate. The sessions fill up quickly, so once registration opens, you need to sign up soon.

Our Juror

Iain Stewart has worked in watercolor since he was a child and has been a professional for 24 years. He has received numerous international awards. One of his most recent is an award in the 2019 AWS show. Additionally, he was one of the jurors of selection for the American Watercolor Society’s 2021 exhibition. Mr. Stewart’s current focus is his personal journey as an artist; seeing where painting for painting’s sake takes him. He carries this passion into his workshops to help individuals develop as artists and follow their own path.

Our weekend will begin October 1, 2021, so mark your calendars and be prepared to relax, learn, and enjoy yourselves at our Fall Convention!
