About WSO

Founded in 1966 with 85 artists, the Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) is a statewide organization of almost 1000 members. The primary activities of WSO are holding exhibitions of members work and providing education opportunities, both for the members and others interested in the creation and appreciation of the visual arts.

Membership in WSO

There are two types of membership available Active (juried) and Subscriber (not juried). Applicants for Active membership must be residents of Oregon. Subscribers may live anywhere in the world, but need to provide a United States address for mailings.

Juried Exhibitions

WSO holds juried exhibitions of members' paintings at the Spring and Fall Conventions. Members are invited to submit paintings to be juried by nationally recognized artists. Eighty paintings are chosen for each show and are published in a 28 page, color Exhibition Catalog. Of those, twenty are selected by the juror to receive awards and travel throughout the state. Award winning paintings tour the state of Oregon for six months.

Workshops and Conventions

The Watercolor Society of Oregon also sponsors special educational events and workshops. The Society maintains an extensive slide and video rental library and keeps the membership informed with the quarterly newsletter, the Watermark. Companies and organizations supporting the Watermark appear on the WSO Resource Links page.

Conventions and Exhibitions are held at various locations within the state. A list is available along with links to photos of exhibition paintings.
