Winter Birches painting

Winter Birches – Anji Grainger

The Watermark is looking for your submissions!

Please share your paintings and your favorite painting tools!

Members’ Gallery

The Watermark staff invites WSO members to share images of your paintings in a fun and informal way in the Members’ Gallery. Images will be published as a Watermark accompaniment and on the WSO website under the Membership tab.

If you are interested in participating in the February 2023 theme of Winter Musings, please:

  • Submit an image of one watercolor or acrylic painting. (Please note: the images submitted by members are not juried.)
  • Crop the photo to show the painting only; there should be no mat, frame, or glass visible.
  • Name the jpeg file using your full name (last, first) followed by the title of the painting—for example, JonesTom-BeautifulFlowers.
  • Format the image, if possible, to 1200 pixels on the longest side.
  • Give WSO consent in the body of your email to display your image on the WSO website.

Email your painting photos by January 12 to Leslie Dugas at with the subject line “Members’ Gallery submission”.

Collective Wisdom

For the February 2023 issue of the Watermark, please share up to three of your favorite painting tools. Let’s get down to the nitty gritty of how you turn that swirl of creative images in your mind into something dazzling on the painting surface!

  • Choose from brushes, palette knives, sponges, texture makers, mark makers, paint or masking applicators, or other implements some of us may never have imagined.
  • Provide the pertinent descriptive information. Example: for a paint brush list brush type, size, composition, brand, and what supplier you use if the item is not widely available.
  • Tell us something special this tool contributes to your artmaking experience.

Email your recommendations by January 12 to Ilana Hoffman with the subject line “WSO Collective Wisdom”. Ilana’s contact information is listed in the Member Roster and Handbook.
