About WSO

The Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) is a vibrant organization dedicated to furthering the creation and appreciation of water media. From conventions to workshops, shows and critique groups, WSO welcomes artists of any level and ability.

WSO was founded in 1966 with 38 artists.  We have grown to approximately 600 members who share work and ideas. A Board of Directors, comprised of WSO members, oversees the direction and operations of the organization, a nonprofit 501(c)(7).

Opportunities to Connect:

The first weekends in April and October draw hundreds of WSO members (and non-members) for our semi-annual conventions. Classes, lectures, mini workshops, and critiques explore water media, composition and design, new techniques, and various painting approaches. An exhibition of member art premiers at each convention, and prizes are awarded by a nationally or internationally recognized Juror. Members can also attend critiques by the guest juror of paintings submitted by members. See our Conventions page for more information.

In addition to conventions, we also offer awards, workshops, links to other art shows, and connections to other artists through our shared WSO Roster and Handbook. Our quarterly Watermark newsletter provides a great outline of all these opportunities.

Opportunities to Learn:

As artists we are lifelong learners, always seeking to find inspiration. WSO supports educational efforts (which can be supported with WSO grants), and local WSO critique groups throughout the state, to provide helpful instruction A comprehensive DVD library is available for free checkout to members.

We welcome your membership and invite you to join us. We have so much to learn together!
